Doctor Visit No. 2

Today we went for our second visit and it was nice a quick, but we got some information. No ultrasound though, probably again at 20 weeks if everything goes as planned- they don't do them at each visit. So first you stand on the scale, always fun, and the average weight gain at this point is three to five pounds and, of course, I've gained five. Kind of surprised given I haven't been feeling too good and hadn't been eating normally/more until recently. The signs of what's to come...

We heard the baby's heartbeat! Very exciting- the doctor found it right away and said the baby was 'very cooperative.' I guess sometimes it's tricky to detect at this point, but not for us...a nice strong beat, 156 bpm. So healthy ranges are 110-156 and then the doctor said "Right in the girls range," I said "Really?" Rich said I almost fell of the table...but then the doctor reneged his comment and said he was joking. But my mom said the same thing when I told her...apparently girls heartbeats are faster, but I won't start buying pink clothes yet.

Also found out I am RH negative, and so is Rich so that's good- Don't have to worry about getting an injection for something bad that could happen if the baby was positive and could risk future pregnancies. Yeah, not big on all the minor details. And for our next visit we have to decide if we want to have a Alpha something screening. Apparently it tests for chromosomal and spinal problems.
