We went to the doctor early Friday morning for the ultrasound and doctor's appointment. In order to properly conduct the ultrasound, I had to drink a ton of water, hold it, and be done with it 45 minutes prior to the visit...Let me tell you how fun that was! Especially since I'm really starting to feel the effects of the baby on the bladder. So I was a little nervous about lying on the table for 45 minutes with a full bladder, but it all worked out okay!So the Nurse started to take the trillion pictures of the baby's everything (organs, limbs, you name it) and before too long we hear, "Wow, look at how big your baby's feet are!" Then she looks down at Rich's feet and says, "Yep, has your feet." Then she continues with how long the baby's "Monkey toes" are, fingers and limbs... As if this is a surprise to anyone... but she just confirmed the nice size of the tyke. Then she starts laughing at how "cute the cheeks are" because they are enormous. The Nurse rambles for minutes about how if the cheeks are this big now, how big they be when the baby's born. Specifically, she said the baby will be "like a little chipmunk storing nuts for the winter."
The baby was very cooperative throughout the entire check, guess it doesn't need to do much though, until the end. The baby was very happy, sound asleep and she needed it to move to get some final shots... so that took awhile, but she said if its a calm baby not creating a lot of raucous now, it will be a calm baby when its born. I find this hard to believe given neither Rich nor I are very calm people, but she can say it.
So in the pics the first and third are a close up of the face and then the second is the best shot she could get of the entire body. In both face pics the forehead is to the left, then you see the eyes towards the middle, the jaw and the cheeks plumping out! The first shot is a little scary looking because I think the baby's eyes might have been open, kinda looks that way. In the third they look closed. But pretty cool shots!
We could have, or not, found out the gender of the baby during this visit. Apparently the baby is very modest and had his/her legs crossed during the ultrasound, so we could not have found out if we wanted too. But, I'm not so sure I believe this. The Nurse said because we didn't want to know, she wouldn't tell us if she was able to determine the sex. So therefore, she could have seen something, or not seen something, and told us this anyway. So, we will find out when the baby arrives!
Then we met with the doctor, Dr. Chen, and he said everything looked great with the baby. One thing he did say is that I may need to have a c-section because of everything's position. (I'll save you all the details...) But that its nothing to worry about. Apparently they will see this condition often and it will clear up as everything continues to grow. So we will have another ultrasound around 34-35 weeks to determine for sure what the delivery method will be. We feel if this is the worst news, or complication, that comes are way- we'll take it. No biggie!
The doctor measured me, said I "look about right, " Whatever that means... and that we'll see him in a month. So there we are! The next visit is Dec. 29th. Then they will do the diabetes test and I'm sure the other normal fun stuff!
